Preference

This morning, I'm feeling like Mike Myers in that old Saturday Night Live sketch - Coffee Talk. "I'm a little verklempt. Talk amongst yourself. I'll give you a topic...Discuss! "

So my Question: Which did you like better as your bookstore of choice, Borders or Barnes & Noble? (I know... I know... What about the Independent book stores? you say. But Indies are a horse of a different color, I think... and I will get into those at a later date)

But I've got to say I'm curious because a group of my writerly friends and I were having a discussion about this very topic and it seemed to be the consensus that we all liked Borders better. I found that odd given the fate of the poor book dealer.

And I know its fate had a lot more to do with the evolution of Ereaders and EBooks than it did with the fact that it was a favorite/ or not-so-favorite hang out for many of us. But I was interested to see what other peoples' opinions were.

So what about the rest of you? What is your preference?

I was a Borders girl all the way. They had much better sales and I loved the staff in my Borders. I really miss that store. :(

I have to say I do too. Especially when I see the big empty store just sitting there day after day. :(

Borders here too. I am totally perplexed why it went under. VERY sad. Where I live there a number of small, independent bookstores, but honestly, I prefer the wider selection of a larger store. I could hang out in there all day. I am really, really going to miss it!!!

When I lived in Seattle we had a beautiful Barnes and Noble close to my house so I loved to hang out there. Now in California, Borders was definitely my choice until it folded. I am sad to see it gone and feel like we lost a friend.

We had a huge Barnes and Nobles near my house. When I was in school (the first time,) me and my study buddies would go there and study for hours. It was great. **Sigh**

I live in France now. Sadly, we don't have a B&N, and obviously, never had a Borders. Anyway, I'm coming over from Kelly's blog. Congrats on your award! ***waves*** New follower!

Seems like Borders has a consensus but there are a fair few shout-outs for B&N too. Not too surprising really.

Well I will miss my Borders but I hope that B&N will fill the spot in it's absence.

Kelly - Aww. Thanks Kelly! That was very nice of you. I shall post it with pride. ;D

Samantha - Welcome to my Blog. :) Thanks for checking it out.

So since you are from France I have a question for you. (hope you don't mind me putting you on the spot) What are European bookstores like? Are big chain stores like Barnes and Noble common place over there? or are Independent stores more typical?

Hi C.M. I'm over here from Kelly Hashway's blog (as a fellow Liebster award recipient) to become a new follower.
I have to say I like Barnes and Noble better, but I'm not really sure why. I think a lot of it has to do with the particular location. Before B&N moved into the mall I preferred Borders, but once B&N hit the mall I hardly went to Borders at all. A guess convenience counts for a lot.

We don't have a either over here. The closest Borders was a plane ride away in Singapore. I adored it. So sad that it's gone. Sigh.

InLuvwithwords - Welcome! Its always nice to see a new face. :D I would definately agree with each particular store matters. My Borders was literally up the street from me which was probably why I liked it more. But for some reason I found the Borders more comfortable than the B&N around me. To each her own I guess! :D

Sam - LOL so I'm going to say not very convient then. :D so what bookstore do you go to? Or do you just order online?
