Children and books

If there is one thing that I love about my daily mommy responsibilities, it would be those precious moments that I can snuggle up with my kiddos and read a bed time story with them. Just me and them without any deadlines, to-do's or anything else. I love it!

Anyway, recently, my five year old son asked me to start reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets to him - I was thrilled to say the least. You see the Harry Potter series holds a special place in my heart, so the fact that my kiddo wanted me to share it with him had me overjoyed.

So just out of curiosity I wanted to ask all of you...Do you have a book/series that you are just dying to introduce to your little one? Or were excited about sharing with them?

Oh, this one is an easy one for me. My twins have just had their first birthday, so it'll be a while yet. But I'm just dying to introduce them to Enid Blyton's books. As a child, stories/series like the "The Magic Faraway Tree" and "Adventures of the Wishing Chair" completely captured my imagination. :-)

I am really dating myself here, but I used to love to read to my kids Stuart LIttle, Charlotte's Web, If you feed a Mouse a Cookie...etc. There was one in particular that my youngest loved though neither of us can remember the name. Since she has two older sisters we took turns reading to her. She had the best of all worlds!

That's awesome!

I don't have children yet, but I want to. And when I do, the books I'm most excited about sharing with them are Harry Potter, of course, the Fablehaven series, and Tuck Everlasting.

My daughter is only four but I'm so glad she loves Corduroy because that was one of my childhood favorites. We discover a lot of good books together. Reading is one of our favorite things to do together.

I had two series that my children had to read...The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis and The Wrinkle in Time series by Madeleine L'Engle.

Linny - Honestly, I had to look up Enid Blyton but the books look absolutely adorable. She seems like a very talented author to have written all those. :)

Annie - I grew up on Stuart Little and Charlotte's Web too. They were definately some fond childhood memories. But I'm still waiting for my 8 year old daughter to have to assigned in school. From what I can remember we were assigned them in Third grade so I'm hoping she gets to them this year.

N.R. Wick - all of those are great ones. I actually am excited at the prospect of sharing progressivly older stories with them too. It's so much more fun to see the stories through their eyes. :D

Kelly - Our's too. :) Corduroy was one of my favorites when I was little but neither one of mine seemed interested in them. However there were plenty of other stories we've enjoyed thoroughly.

Journeytoepiphany - I really liked the Chronicles of Narnia was probably one of the only series I've ever wanted to read through when I was a kid. (not really a big reader when I was younger) And with the movies that came out, the kiddos are really interested in those stories. I have yet to read it to them though ( I think it still might be slightly too old for a 5 and 8 year old). In a year or two maybe I will.

My kids loved anything by Jan Brett, and I was partial to Winnie the Pooh.
